Nagpur
University is one of the oldest state universities in
India. It was established in the month of August 1923 at
Nagpur with just four academic faculties, six colleges
and around one thousand of students. It has now come of
age and also has been renamed after Rashtrasant Tukadoji
Maharaj in may 2005 to flower into 10 faculties, 3
conducted colleges,36 post Graduate Teaching Departments
and 439 affiliated colleges in vicinity of Vidarbha to
meet the socio-cultural and educational needs of over 3
lakhs of students at the threshold of the new
millennium. I believe this is a decisive development of
our university in the last 84 years.
However, I think that it has yet to leap forward to turn
over a new leaf in the history of higher education with
the present modern educational system that has to be
coupled with the spirit of value based education to meet
the new challenges and competition at global level for
the betterment of mankind in twenty-first century. We
therefore do need to educate our students to transcend
their simple concern for materialistic needs. I am sure
this could be possible only when we stand and work
together. I feel sorry for not getting such an intact
and huge platform to unite our whole enterprising spirit
since our different educational as Well as administrative
departments are developed in the different locations in
the city invariably dislocating the mechanism of
teaching.
For this we have conceived of certain plans of
rejuvenation and beautification of the Mahatma Jyotiba
Fuley academic campus – The construction of a huge and
full-fledged statue of Tukadoji Maharaj Whose name
stands against the backdrop of the gigantic growth of
the university so far. It is a must to make our
university a source of inspiration for the continuation
of the work of Rashtrasant for noble cause. It also
includes the beautification of the old physically
dilapidated structure of the various teaching
departments, and the construction of an avenue between
the main entrance of campus and the block of Humanities.
The proposed work of modernization of academic campus
may cost us the sum of at least ONE CRORE OF RUPEES and
it has to be raised from the public support. Hence, I
invite the attention of its alumni to come forward to
support us in this mission and give us a very supporting
hand today. I recall and request them to send their
donations by the crossed cheque in favour of the
