In pursuance of the initiative taken by the Government of India, the UGC selected Nagpur

 University as one of the universities for establishing Gandhi Bhavan with a view to disseminate Gandhian Thought and values among the community. The University Gandhi Bhavan is situated in a spacious building, specially designed for the purpose.

RTM Nagpur University could claim to be the pioneer educational institution in introducing a well-planned course on Gandhian Thought in India in 1979. The

Department since then had the good fortune to get the services of very experienced educationists in this area. The Gandhian Thought Department of RTM Nagpur university is the only center of its kind in the entire central India.

A humble beginning made with P.G. Diploma course in Gandhian Thought in 1979 was later elevated to a Post-graduate programme, namely M.A. in Gandhian Thought in 1987. The Department has facilities for offering Doctoral research in Gandhian Thought. 3 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree, 2 research scholars have submitted their thesis for evaluation and 8 research scholars are working for their Ph.D. under the guidance of HOD.

The following extension activities are carried out in the Department.

  3. Siddha Science Free Treatment

  4. Sarva-dharma Prarthana

  5. Providing Gandhian literature to the public.

  6. Naturopathy Free Consultancy services to the public.

The popularity of the programmes run by this Department is reflected in the fact that the students in age group ranging from 20 to 75 years join these courses regularly. Further stalwarts from different walks of life usually have taken advantage of these courses. This very fact speaks for itself the successful efforts and achievements made by this Department in propagating the essence of Gandhian Thought in people from diverse sections of society. Thus the aims and objectives of the Department with which it was established, thus is being accomplished to impart value based education.
