About us :
Post Graduate Teaching Department of Statistics came into existence in the year 1976 under the leadership of Late Dr. B.S. Fadnis, the then head, Department of Mathematics. The Department made a significant progress within a few years. In the year 1979, Late Dr. A.B. Buche, a distinguished personality in the field of Stochastic Processes and Functional equations joined the department as the first Professor and Head.
The department has presently 6 sanctioned teaching staff comprising of three professors one Associate Professor and two Posts of lectures are vacant. Research Projects are awarded to the faculty carrying out research work in the different fields of statistics. The department is active in updating the curriculum and encouraging research.
Different fields of Statistics in which research is being carried out includes Stochastic Processes, operations Research, Applied Probability Theory, Statistical quality control, Randomized clinical trails. Faculty members of the department are actively involved in various academic activities Nationally and Internationally.

Courses:
Department offers programs leading to M.Sc. (Statistics) M.Phil (Statistics) and Ph.D. (Statistics) degree. Intake capacity of students in M.Sc. I is 25 and M Phil course is minimum 05.

M. Sc. I	Theory papers 4 + 2 Practicals.

M. Sc. II	Theory papers 4 (2 compulsory + 2 optional) + two practicals.

For admissions to M. Sc. I in Statistics the candidate must have passed B. Sc. Examination with Mathematics as one of the subject. Weightage being given to students with Mathematics and Statistics subjects at B. Sc. Level.
For M. Phil course M. Sc. (Statistics) is the eligibility. Admissions to M. Sc. And M. Phil courses are done as per the merit list based on Bachelor’s degree and Post graduate degree respectively. Reservation policy as per Government rules is followed.

Dr. Kane is a Professor and currently Head of the Department of Statistics. Involved in teaching at Post Graduate level for last 29th years. Engaged in research in Applied probability, operations research and Design of Experiments. Published 14 research papers in National and International Journals. Six students have been awarded Ph.D. in Statistics and 6 students have completed their M. Phil under his guidance.

Two students are currently working for their Ph.D. under his guidance.
At present Dr. S. P. Kane is Chairman of the board of Studies in Statistics of R.T.M. Nagpur University. He also visited Hungary as a visiting Professor in the Department of Probability theory and statistics, Eotvas Lorand University, Budapest, Hungary, under Indo-Hungarian educational Exchange Programme of UGC in 2007. Dr. S.P. Kane is currently holding an additional charge of the Controller of Examinations of R.T.M. Nagpur University Nagpur.

Dr. Mrs. M. V. Khaparde is working as Professor in department of Statistics and is having 31 years of teaching experience at the Post graduate level. Dr. Khaparde has Published 18 Research paper / Articles in National / International Journal. Four students have been awarded Ph. D. under her guidance and two students are working for their Ph.D. under her guidance. . Five students have also successfully completed their M. Phil dissertation under her supervision. She has completed one Minor research Project successfully sanctioned by UGC New Delhi.
She has visited Kathmandu Nepal and Lisbon, Portugal. At present she is a member a board of studies in statistics and Faculty of Science, Nagpur University. Her research interest includes areas like stochastic processes, bio-statistics, Statistical quality control.

Dr. P. G. Khot is a Professor since 1999 at the Post Graduate Teaching Department of Statistics of the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. He previously served as the Head of the same department for more than 13 years. He is an active researcher with over 32 publications in national and international journals of repute. He has delivered invited talks and has been on the organizing boards of many national and international conferences and Journals. His participation at various positions in committees of national scope in organizations such as NAAC, UGC, PSC, UPSC etc, selection and advisory committees of various universities and other university bodies has been exemplary. His vision for the future is to continue remaining an active researcher and to contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum and education methodology development.

Dr. Mrs. N. M. Wazalwar is working as Associate Professor in Department of Statistics and is having 25 years of teaching experience at Post graduate level in the university. Dr. Wazalwar has published two research papers and one student has completed M. Phil. dissertation under her supervision. She visited university of Lisbon, Portugal. Her areas of research are Stochastic Processes and Bio-statistics.

The faculty members offer Statistical consultancy to the research workers and teachers from all faculties.

Computing facility:
The department has excellent computing facility. The computer Laboratory is well equipped with latest Statistical Software.
