Dr. J.V. Gavai (M.A., LL.B., Ph.D.), Reader has almost completed 25 years of his

 services in the University and the department. He joined as the head of the department in the year 2002. He is the author of the text books on Political Theory, Indian Government and politics and Comparative politics, published by Vishwa Publications, Nagpur, designed for the under graduate and the post graduate students of Nagpur and Amravati Universities. Has written expensively and has constantly published research papers and articles in leading national, state and local dailies, periodicals and journals, covering major and important issues in Indian politics, issues of reservation policy, Indian constitutional debates, coalition politics and also on issues of international relations. Dr. Gavai has been guiding Ph.D research since 15 years and had also been the member of Research and Recognition Committee of Nagpur University and the member of Board of University Teaching and Research (BUTR) of the University. 
 
He has been instrumental in the organization of various activities in the department including the annual conferences of political science for the teachers of Nagpur and Amravati Universities in the year 2004 and 2005; UGC Academic Staff college’s refresher courses in political science; many other state and national level talks, seminars and workshops which includes the seminar on Global Terriorism, Sustainable development, Seminar on Atrocities against Dalits, teaching session on International Humanitarian laws, etc.
