About us
The Department of Library and Information Science, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur is one of the oldest department of Library Science in the country. This department was started on 20 August 1956 and had a history of fifty years. Starting in the year 1956 with a diploma course in Library and Information Science it has come a long way upgrading the diploma to BLISc, starting MLISC of one year course (1984) and MLISc ( Integrated two years course ) as per UGC guide lines in the year 2003. The department also has to its credit Ph. D. program from 1987 onwards. Department has celebrated its Golden Jubilee year during 2006-07 to commemorate the 50 glorious years of its existence and its academic contribution to the discipline of Library and Information Science. The department was headed by stalwarts in the field who are renowned scholars and brought laurels to this department by their academic and administrative acumen to this university and upgraded standard of this department as one of the leading LIS educational institutes in the country. Department is Located on the first floor of RTMNU, Main library building, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur. The department regularly updates its curriculum to keep pace with the emerging job-market and development. The department is proposing to start semester pattern from the academic session 2012-13.

She has been in LIS Profession Since 2002, Gold Medalist from Nagpur University . Worked as a Lecturer in DLISc, Shivaji Univeristy, Kolhapur from 2002-2003. Presently working as a Assistant Professor & Head in DLISC, Rastrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University , Nagpur . Experience of teaching and guiding for UGC NET/SET, P.O. and other competitive examinations. Published more than 100 papers in seminars, conferences and Journals. She is a life member of professional association viz. DLA, ILA, IATLIS, LISAA, SALIS and VLA. She has completed Information Literacy Project with UNESCO and SALIS as a member. Principal Investigator for UGC-Minor Research Project on “Profiles of LIS schools and Faculty Members in Maharashtra ”. Joint Secretary of SALIS Nagpur Chapter. She was a Joint Organizing Secretary of Golden Jubilee National Conference on Quality Assessment and Quality Indicators of LIS Education, 10-12th Nov, 2006. She has 4 books,and more than 100 papers published to her credit. She has completed one Minor Research Project and presently working on Major Research Project of UGC. She had been Content writer to two UNESCO Projects. She has presented papers at International Conferences. She has an experience of guiding UGC-NET-SET aspirants under Remedial Coaching Scheme. She is the Editor of the quarterly journal “Information Age”. She is a life member of professional association viz. DLA, ILA, IATLIS, LISAA, SALIS and VLA, and IASLIC.

He is the Editor of “Indian Journal of Interdisciplinary Research” and “Dnyanjagat”. He earned Gold Medal for Ph.D. Research in Social Science Faculty in 2004 by RTMNU.He is receipient of 5 Awards.
