11. Field of Research :

  • Kinetics and equilibrium studies on adsorption of hazardous organic pollutants from synthetic and industrial wastewater onto powdered and granular activated carbon in batch and flow systems.
  • Air and water pollution monitoring and control, Advanced oxidation processes using strong oxidising agents like ozone and hydrogen peroxide catalysed by UV radiations for their removal from hazardous wastes.
  • Biological treatment (activated sludge process) of industrial and domestic wastewater, landfill leachates etc. in high performance loop reactors (Compact Reactor) and biofilm reactors for eliminating BOD, COD, and nutrients.

Objectives

To excel in teaching and research activities. I would like to shift the focus to research and development on an industrial scale. Main area of interest is to develop a chain of physical-chemical-biological processes for scavenging pollutants from industrial and domestic wastewater. At primary stage the pollution level can be reduced by conventional filtration, sedimentation and coagulation followed by chemical oxidation, photocatalysed oxidation, or biological oxidation in high performance bioreactors to bring down the contaminants to an acceptable concentration level for discharge into natural streams. At tertiary level fixed beds of granular activated carbon will be used to remove the final traces of pollutants.
